Kimi Raikkonen is currently heading Ferrari’s second consecutive win of the Formula One World championship season after this past Sunday’s triumph in the Spanish Grand Prix.

The Finn achieved the victory number 17 of his career; a race that he controlled from the moment he took off from the grid. Raikkonen was closely followed by his Brazilian teammate Felipe Massa, while the Britton Lewis Hamilton was in third position driving his McLaren.

The Spanish Grand Prix race took place at the circuit of Montmeló; but the black spot that shadowed the event was the Finnish Heikki Kovalanien’s accident. The McLaren driver needed to be taken to a nearby hospital and he seemed to be stable despite his shoulder and elbow pains.

Additionally, the Spaniard Fernando Alonso who currently drives for Renault had to quit the race in the 34th lap due to car malfunctions despite his second place start in the grid; a certain bitter sweet taste as this Grand Prix took place in his natal country Spain

The Polish Robert Kubica (BMW Sauber) crossed the finish line in fourth place and the Australian Mark Webber (Red Bull) entered fifth. The Britton Jenson Button (Honda), the Japanese Kazuki Nakajima (Williams) and the Italian Jarno Trulli (Toyota) arrived in the following positions and achieved amongst them the remaining points.

The mastery of current champion and 2005 Spain winner Raikkonen was evident; he presently holds the leadership of the general standings with 29 points; 9 points more than counterpart Hamilton. On the other hand, Massa who won three weeks ago in Bahrain holds the third place with 19 points. This is Raikkonen’s sixth time victory at a Grand Prix where he leads from start to end; and his second victory during the year after winning in Malaysia a month ago.

This race was one of Ferrari’s easy tasks as Raikkonen did great from start to end while Massa also did his part pressuring Alonso before arriving at the first curve. The competition was a true display of Ferrari’s current racing talent and at the end Raikkonen surpassed Massa for only 3.2 seconds of advantage.
