Surrounded by emotions, it began the Formula One World Championship 2009 season, and Australia was in charge of hosting the opening race of a year that comes full of very big changes that have caused that both, the teams and the pilots, get adjusted to a new system of competition based on the modification of many rules. As well, new racing cars have been introduced to the competition because, in order to met the new requirements, manufacturers had to do much more than only making a few changes on their old cars; they actually had to redesign and reconstruct them with a new vision and the intention to make them more competitive and more efficient.
Among the most notable changes for this year, the Honda Racing team ultimately decided to withdraw its participation in the Formula One World Championship because they were unable to manage the serious financial problems that were affecting them due to the poor performances shown in previous seasons and this led the team to be absorbed by Brawn GP, a new team that began to compete on the current season with the objective of bringing more excitement and a new perspective to the fascinating motor world.
This certainly was a great opportunity for the former pilots of Honda, the Brazilian Rubens Barrichello and the English Jenson Button, who after seeing their future diminishing in formula 1 due to the dissolution of their team, both pilots found a new light when Brawn GP took the risky but well-informed decision to hire them as their main drivers, and being aware that they could not disappoint their new team, Barrichello and Button focused on overcoming the poor performance they had shown in previous seasons, since their last victories were in 2004 and 2006 respectively.
A demonstration of the revival of Button and Barrichello was the energy and great performance shown during their participation at the Grand Prix of Australia. In the trials prior to the classification for the major event, the team of Brawn GP gave a great display of talent and driving skills which helped Button to obtain the pole position, followed by his partner Barrichello in second place. Their skills, along with the powerful cars they drove, were the factors that showed the superiority and the high competitiveness of this new team Brawn GP.
From the beginning , Jenson Button started at the front of the race; position in which he achieve to remain until the race finished; dramatically, he led for the 58 laps scheduled for the event and although there were many who tried to reach him, Button managed to avoid being overtaken with intelligence and got away from their pursuers. However, while the British moved quickly, his partner Barrichello had some complications to remain in the second place when near the finish, an accident between Sebastian Vettel and Robert Kubica, in addition to the friction he had with Mark Webber, who at the same time hit his car with Nick Heidfeld, caused the declining of the Brazilian to the seventh place.
However, determined not to let down his team after his great performance in the classification stage, Rubens Barrichello used advanced quickly to place himself behind his partner, who was in the leading position. This way, Brawn GP made its debut winning by far in the first big event of the season, with its two pilots on the podium, while the current world champion Lewis Hamilton, finished in the third place.
